Shirley Heng

Chief Nurse, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital(KTPH) and Yishun Health

About

Shirley is the Chief Nurse of Khoo Teck Puat Hospital(KTPH) and Yishun Health where she plays a key role in the development of nursing competencies, talent management, nursing innovation and workforce transformation.  She is an active member in various hospital and cluster level committees which steers the development of clinical policies and the development of the nursing profession. 

She currently serves as a Board Member and Registration Committee Member in the Singapore Nursing Board. 

Shirley has served in the Singapore public healthcare sector for more than 2 decades and has experience as a clinical nurse since graduating in 1997.   She worked through the ranks in both Singapore General Hospital and Alexandra Hospital and she took on nursing management and administration role since 2009 when she was appointed as Assistant Director(Nursing). 
Shirley is a graduate nurse who specializes in Medical-Surgical nursing and possesses a Masters in Health Science(Management).  She completed her General Management Programme in Harvard Business School in 2018.

She was the co-leader in the inpatient workgroup in planning, commissioning and opening of KTPH and was instrumental in leading the design, development and implementation of electronic medical records and informatics for KTPH.   
 
As an Assistant Chief Nursing Officer in Ministry of Health(MOH) from 2011 to 2013, she was crucial in the review, development and evaluation of nursing policies, leadership strategies and informatics to promote nursing manpower development and standards in support of national healthcare objectives.   She was also an active member and Secretariat in the MOH National Nursing Taskforce Committee(2012) and Member of the MOH Future Nursing Career Review Committee which recommended a blueprint for the development of nurses and the nursing profession in Singapore; and implemented the recommendations to prepare a future ready nursing workforce in Singapore. 
 
Shirley enjoys fine arts, reading and painting.
